Regional Wastewater Reclamation Conveyance Division is seeking a forward-thinking ambitious person to lead a team utilizing the latest sewer technologies throughout Pima County’s 3400+ miles of sewer.
If you are ready to lead and be part of the future of public utilities, we want to talk to you! Duties/Responsibilities (Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
) Oversees maintenance, repair and construction work on assigned sections of highways, roadways, drainage ways, solid waste or sanitary sewerage facilities and structures; Insures quality control, safety practices and completion of all work performed by work crews, vendors and contract construction agencies; Schedules and inspects the implementation of annual and periodic maintenance, construction and service contracts for compliance with operating permits, standards and specifications; Forecasts, projects and/or monitors unit costs and expenditures for supplies, equipment and man-hours for maintenance and construction projects and contracts; Supervises removal and disposal of snow, ice and debris in assigned areas; Inspects assigned areas for road damage or roadway hazards and orders repairs of specialized road and bridge facilities/structures, such as guardrails, cattle guards, corrugated pipe culverts, etc.
; Coordinates the construction, repair, inspection and maintenance of sanitary sewer or solid waste facilities, wastewater pumping systems, manholes, piping, spillways and catwalks, to include vector, odor and corrosion control, and flow metering; Coordinates activities involved in the operational maintenance of public solid and landfill waste facilities and authorizes stop-work orders; Interprets blueprints, construction specifications and engineering drawings and discusses specified construction procedures with affected parties to ensure compliance with contract requirements and industry standards and codes; May act as Public Works Supervisor-Senior in their absence.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Knowledge of: federal and state regulations and policies, County codes and industry standards applicable to area of assignment; equipment and materials used in public works repair, construction and maintenance; principles and techniques of supervision, training and evaluation; civil engineering principles and practices related to public works construction and maintenance in area of assignment; principles of inspections, testing, environmental monitoring and handling of hazardous chemicals and materials; safety practices applicable to construction and maintenance activities; principles of contract compliance, inspection and implementation.
Skill in: scheduling and directing multiple construction, maintenance and repair operations; operation, servicing, maintenance and adjustment of machinery and equipment for the construction, repair and maintenance of public works structures and facilities; interpreting blueprints, plans, schematics and engineering drawings; supervising and evaluating the activities of public works personnel; performing, recording and reporting results of construction inspection and testing; communicating effectively; measuring productivity and compiling quality control status reports.
Minimum Qualifications (1) Six years of experience in commercial, industrial or public works maintenance, repair or construction and two years of lead or supervisory experience in a commercial, industrial or public works construction or maintenance setting.

) (Graduation from an accredited college or technical school in environmental technology, engineering, or a related discipline may substitute for four years of the general experience.
) OR: (2) Four years of experience as a Wastewater Conveyance System Monitor-Senior, or Public Works Construction Inspector-Senior.
OR: (3) Three years of experience with Pima County as a Public Works Crew Supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application.

): Minimum three (3) years working experience and knowledge of sewer/water system operation and maintenance.
Minimum five (5) years technical experience utilizing specialized software related to assets and equipment.
Minimum three (3) years as a lead employee working within a team environment.
Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications.

Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications.
The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources.
Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application.
Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks.
Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
