52/hr for 40 hr work week) Start Date: 1/4/2024 Application Due Date: Preference given to applicants that submit application by Nov 16, 2023 Position Title Project Manager Resource Assistant (Wildfire Crisis Strategy) Position Details Stewards Individual Placement Program (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources.
Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
The Coronado National Forest covers 1,780,000 acres of southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico.
Elevations range from 3,000 feet to 10,720 feet in widely scattered mountain ranges or "Sky Islands.
" These mountains rise dramatically from the desert floor, supporting plant communities as biologically diverse as those encountered on a drive from Mexico to Canada.
Stewards in partnership with the Coronado National Forest is seeking a Project Management Resource Assistant to serve as a project manager for the San Carlos Apache Tribal Forest Protection Project in southern Arizona.
This is a landscape that covers 3 national forests and the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation lands.
The landscape is one of 21 designated nationally under the Forest Service Wildfire Crisis Strategy.

The goal of the ten-year strategy is to reduce fuels and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire to communities and critical infrastructure.
As a project manager, the intern will serve as an assistant to the overall landscape program manager.
A major focus of the intern is to manage and track work and budgets across the 3 forests and the Tribal Reservation.
There may be an opportunity to assist with basic GIS analysis and making vicinity maps.
Overall, the project will result in fuels reduction treatments across the landscape, but specific products from the internship will consist of meeting notes, tracking spreadsheets, maps, agenda development, drafting success stories, assisting with briefing papers, coordination between forests and the Tribal contacts.
Position Responsibilities will include: Project Management Capture notes at meetings using templates Draft agendas for meeting using templates Maintain files for the project Maintain library of photos Communications Write success story each month Assist with drafting press releases as needed Identify updates needed on landscape webpage and submit tickets for updates Assist with briefing papers and reply dues GIS and Data Reporting Pull vicinity maps or database queries, as needed Coordination Attend meetings with forest POCs and Forest Supervisors Attend meetings with the Tribe Work with forest POCs to obtain updates to project implementation tracking sheets Work with budget officer to monitor and track expenditures and planned costs for outyears Minimum Requirements: Microsoft suite (using review tools in Word for editing, working knowledge of excel tools, able to develop powerpoint presentation and use templates) Good writing skills, able to compile paragraphs and professional email correspondence Able to produce quality products with tight turn arounds Able to prioritize work and be flexible Establish positive working relationships Strong organizational skills Preferred Requirements: Project planning experience GIS skills Benefits: $1000.

*The USFS Resource Assistant Program (RAP) is a rigorous, immersive, paid internship providing developmental and training opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about Forest Service careers.
After completing a minimum of 960 hours of satisfactory work and an associate degree, RA’s may acquire a two-year certificate of noncompetitive hiring eligibility.
The certificate enables participants to apply to internal merit announcements for qualifying permanent General Schedule FS positions as well as a Direct Hire Authority for FS Career positions.
