This role impacts key research and program areas within the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH).
This position will serve as the Project Director for two large research projects.
The position will also serve as the lead administrator for the Population Sciences Program within UACC under the direction of the Associate Director for Population Sciences, and the lead administrator for the Center for Health Disparities Research within MEZCOPH under the direction of the Director of the Center for Health Disparities Research.
The role will carry out strategic initiatives for both research projects and the programs, which means collaborating with other functional areas and leadership for needs assessments, focusing on building needed infrastructure, making process improvements, recommending solutions and implementing programs and activities while leveraging the resources of the UACC and other Centers of the MEZCOPH.
The administrator will oversee the diverse research portfolio of the Associate Director of Population Sciences/Director of the Center for Health Disparities Research and will oversee approximately 3 university employees to accomplish research and program objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities Function as a Project Director to direct complex, multi-site research activities for two large research projects.
The projects are: Community Partnership for Telehealth Solutions to Counter Misinformation and Achieve Equity within MEZCOPH Assessing the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on disparities in cancer screening and follow-up within the UACC Responsibilities on these two specific research programs include: Overseeing multisite teams that include approximately 15 investigators, research associates, and project managers.
Several team members will be managed indirectly through 6 subcontracts being managed as part of these programs.
Manage day-to-day activities, which includes managing the overall timeline, creating progress reports for the funding agency, executing administrative tasks (budget management, including subcontract budget oversight, meeting management, IRB ceding authority coordination, ensuring compliance agreements are in place, and other grant administration activities), and reporting and following up on issues of non-compliance.
Ensure that project activities take place as schedule and adhere to established procedures.
Implement new programs and activities as needed.
Develop and plan complex priorities for the Center for Health Disparities Research (College of Public Health) and the Population Sciences Program (Cancer Center), under minimal direction from senior leadership.
Accountable for planning and directing all aspects of the operations of the Center for Health Disparities Research in the College of Public Health.
This will include collaborating with other areas and leadership regarding needs assessment, process improvements, and recommending solutions.
Decisions have a direct impact on the operations of the Center and have a direct impact on the College of Public Health's mission of achieving health equity through research & service.
Contribute fully to the budget process for the Center for Health Disparities' research.
Contribute to strategic planning, coordinating grant submissions of various Health Disparities Research Center members, and facilitate collaborations with strategic partners.
Partner with teams and leadership across departments and colleges as needed.
Plan and lead the work of multiple staff members performing diverse responsibilities.
Supervise exempt and non-exempt staff members in the Center for Health Disparities Research in the College of Public Health and/or the Population Sciences Program of the University of Arizona Cancer Center.
Provide guidance and training on work standards and expected outcomes.
Accountable for planning and evaluating performance, staff training and development, recruitment.
Communicate direction from leadership and articulate impact on staff work objectives.
Requires the ability to influence others outside of own job area on policies, practices, and procedures.
Use information exchange, influence, and active persuasion to gain cooperation of others to support the research and partnership objectives of the Cancer Center's Population Sciences Program and the College of Public Health Center for Health Disparities Research.
Serve as a proxy for senior leadership as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with different groups/individuals.
Ability to manage funding for current and emerging projects and initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Experience leading a team, project, program, or function is required.
Preferred Qualifications Master's in Public Health, Applied Research or related degree.
Experience directing research projects involving collaborations with federally qualified health centers, Medicaid health plans, and/or rural clinics.
Experience coordinating the submission of a large program project grant (i.
e.
, NIH P01 or equivalent).
Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning experience.
Track record of working effectively and collaboratively with the leadership of a research center.
Experience working with multiple departments and external collaborators.
Experience managing large and/or multiple complex budgets.
Familiarity using REDCap and Smartsheet for research study management.
Experience managing clinical trials is preferred.
Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
