Fender Thinline Telecaster 27” Baritone neck, w/ original Rickenbacker 1950s Horseshoe Pickup, 1960s Teisco Gold Foil Pickup, Bigsby, Sperzel Locking Tuners, G&G USA Tweed Case, more.
.
Here is a fantastic, truly one-of-a-kind Fender mahogany Thinline Telecaster (MIM) which has been customized with a 1950s Rickenbacker USA 'Horseshoe Magnet’ Lap Steel pickup (string-thru!); a 1960s Teisco Japan ‘Gold Foil’ pickup; a 27" scale Rosewood Fender Baritone (MIM) neck, classic Bigsby B50 Vibrato, Sperzel locking tuners; and the original vintage 'Rickenbacker', 'Fender', and 'Teisco' metal logo badges (from the ‘donor’ instruments) have been included for that classic “Formula One” vibe; '50s Daka Chicago brown bakelite 'chicken-head' knobs; in a G&G USA lacquered tweed HSC.
Great opportunity to acquire a beautifully executed, unique “Coodercaster”style Fender, so-named after the pair of Fenders that Ry Cooder had similarly modded back in the mid 1970s under the auspices of his pal and fellow 'string wizard' David Lindley.
This example is truly a “Tele on steroids”, with a deep, dark, but at the same time snappy and percussive tone.
The Rickenbacker Horseshoe-magnet lap-steel pickup is simply in its own league, it's truly LEGENDARY…
The neck can be swapped to a regular scale 25.
5" neck without much fuss (just strings, intonation, and set-up) if you wanted to convert it back to standard Tele scale…
History, 'Lore', and 'guitar Geekery':
The historical significance of this this guitar; this particular configuration of parts, begs description: Do a bit of research and you'll see that this indeed represents some of the the 'key ingredients' of the very first viable electric guitars that were ever manufactured for sale (way back in 1932!) by "Ro-Pat-In", the company that would later become Rickenbacker.
This guitar is also in its way a tribute to the legendary German master-luthier Roger Rossmeisl, the only guitar designer who worked (post WWII) with all three of America's greatest electric guitar companies: Gibson (1950s), Rickenbacker (1950s), and Fender (1960s), creating some of the world's most iconic guitars (such as George Harrison's Ric 360-12 string, John Lennon's diminutive Hollowbody Ric 325, Paul McCartney's Ric 4001s, also he designed the Fender Thinline Telecaster, Fender Coronado, and many others, and was indispensable in the training of Semie Moseley of Mosrite).
Ry Cooder's most recent Coodercaster has this model vintage 1950s Ric Horseshoe lap-steel pickup, which is what he originally wanted to use back in the 70s, but he 'settled' for a Valco style instead (because David Lindley had a spare one which he kindly offered along with a 60s Japanese Teisco Goldfoil, which this guitar also has; an original 60's Japanese one, not a modern repro)!
