We used this guy from CL, Ian (todayisthedaytuc.
.
.
) to help us with our move, as we are getting older and just don't have the energy that we once had.
I had worked for several months packing, and getting our home ready to sell.
I was both mentally and physically worn out.
Ian worked hard, alongside my husband for many days packing the garage, moving items into storage, etc.
He advised us he was ex-military and had worked in IT but was tired of doing that.
He said his wife is an accountant and he had several children.
He told us he would not accept any work that he felt was beyond his skill level.
We wanted to give him more work, because he seemed like he needed the money and even worked on Thanksgiving morning.
He advised us he was very capable of installing a vinyl plank floor and could do it in one day.
That seemed reasonable to us.
I've attached photos of our flooring install that he did for us after we moved from our home and were traveling across country.
Our realtor took these after Ian had completed his work and advised us the floor had turned out "quite well.
" He was directed to paint the baseboards, which does not appear to have been done, even though we discussed this at great length.
He also did not complete other tasks.
You be the judge if you would be happy with this.
It is costing us $1200 to fix this after we had already paid him and now he refuses to refund any money we've sent him, nor does he return phone calls or emails.
We treated this guy very kindly.
I gave him hundreds of dollars of food from my freezer and pantry.
I made sure he was fed meals while he worked for us.
Please be very careful who you hire.
When Ian was confronted with these images he put down our realtor for showing them to us, saying, "Doesn't he know how to put down a bathmat to cover that up?" Be careful who you hire.
This guy was fine until left without our supervision.
But, there were some red flags along the way, that I wish I had listened to.
In the process of moving, it's very easy to miss your gut feelings about things.
I hope you find this information useful.
I wish I had known this prior to hiring Ian.
Inspect ALL work, every last detail, YOURSELF or someone you trust prior to paying anybody!
