Desgined to work with the Commodore Vic 20 and the Commodore 64 computers, this Commodore C2N Datasette employs standard audio cassettes as a memory storage medium prior to the introduction of 5 1/4" floppy discs.
Commnodore supplied a great variety of software (word processor, spreadsheet, games, etc.
) in standard audio cassettes which could be downloaded into their computers with this Datasette, software which can be found at dealers and clubs for vintage computer equipment.
Some people still employ Datasettes (1) because of the standardization of a surviving archival medium, and (2) because they provide security as a medium not normally recognized for computer memory storage.
