The new advisor will initially be assigned to advise School of Music students, but may later include populations in programs in other areas across the College, as assigned by the Associate Director of Advising for the College of Fine Arts.
The Academic Advisor serves as the front-line contact for undergraduate students to ensure degree completion and empower students to achieve their goals.
The Academic Advisor builds formative relationships with students by providing clarification on procedures and academic requirements of specific programs or majors.
The position will report to the College of Fine Arts Associate Director - Academic Advising, with day-to-day direction from the School of Music Undergraduate Program Director.

Duties & Responsibilities Duties & Responsibilities: Assess individual student's stage of development and advise them to establish realistic and attainable educational and career goals.
Advise students on education plans, selecting courses, and career options; Prepare advising materials.
Evaluate use of transfer credit for possible equivalencies for degree programs.
Monitor student's academic progress toward degree and assist student completion.
Review and complete degree audits.
Update and maintain database of student majors; Maintain student files, records, and advisor notes on Trellis.
Assist with New Student and Transfer Orientations.
Assist the Associate Director - Academic Advising and School of Music Undergraduate Program Director in identifying retention and completion obstacles within the school and college.
Participate in the Coordinating Advisors College and Music School meetings and activities to ensure the best possible experience for CFA students while attending the University of Arizona.
Refer students to appropriate departmental offices, faculty and support services to help with academic, personal and career counseling, and academic skills development.
Assists Undergraduate Program Manager with School's Curriculum Committee to identify curriculum issues.
Attend meetings as directed to stay abreast of policy and procedures in the College and across campus.
Consult with Associate Director of Academic Advising on more difficult or unusual cases.
Participate in college-wide milestone events such as CFA Awards Convocation, Commencement, and other student events.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of student development theory, outreach practices, and student success services.
* Excellent interpersonal communication, relationship building, and student service skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* Knowledge of FERPA and ethical principles in working with student data.
* Demonstrated enthusiastic and creative use of information technology systems to provide solutions to the academic community.
* General knowledge of student information systems and student centers.
* Skill in working independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required.
1 year of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in higher education.
Experience working with undergraduate students.
