edu Location Main Campus Address Tucson, AZ USA Position Highlights The University of Arizona Space Institute is looking for a Software Engineer (R&D Software Engineer II) to assist with the development of our Mission Operations Center.
The person in this position will work closely with the ASI mission team to develop the software and procedures that will help us deliver world-class mission planning and ground data services to robotic space missions.
Candidates should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and as an individual contributor.
Candidates should be comfortable balancing the need for resourceful research to complete tasks and effective communication with the team when they need help.
The University of Arizona Space Institute (UASI) serves as an umbrella organization to facilitate the work of UArizona’s space-oriented researchers, providing seed grants for major missions and other space projects in development, coordinating technical staff, helping to build the necessary infrastructure, and operating the Advanced Research Building.

Duties & Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities: Develop software in Java and Python for mission operations automation including pointing constraint resolution, flight rule checking, and delivery artifact management.
Administers and assists in the coordination of assigned programs and projects.
Estimates, prioritizes, plans, and coordinates development and testing activities.
Works under minimal supervision, consulting with mission team and leadership on complex situations.
Support backend development in Java with Jakarta EE 10.
Support web frontend development in JavaScript.
Gathers software requirements and researches possible solutions to meet those requirements.
Reviews requirements, specifications, and technical design documents.
Develops, codes, tests, and debugs software and user interfaces.
Develops and implements algorithms.
Develops and implements detailed test procedures.
Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft Office product.
Knowledge of Linux OS.
Skill in GNU development tools.
Skill in web development.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience and 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Java Swing for desktop, Jakarta EE 10, and Web development with Bootstrap experience.
Federal regulations require that the incumbent be a U.

citizen, legal permanent resident, or have another protected status under 8 U.
S.
C.
1324b(a)(3) to be ITAR/EAR compliant.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with MATLAB, Python, and networks is desired.
