About the Role The Automation & Controls (A&C) Engineer develops, implements, and maintains the data acquisition and control systems for Phantom’s safe and effective test and orbital launch operations.
The A&C Engineer works closely with the test and launch teams to design, develop, and operationally support automation and control systems for test operations, automated launch control, and user-friendly graphical user interfaces.
In summary, a successful candidate will be able to skillfully implement LabVIEW and data acquisition and controls hardware in Phantom’s launch and test operational environments as well as architect Phantom’s future A&C systems to match company growth and changing needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Distill system-level requirements into individual specifications and select appropriate solutions Perform a variety of tasks that create and maintain control systems for test and launch support equipment Design and implement LabVIEW, control and program software, and data acquisition and controls hardware Validate performance and effectively troubleshoot the systems associated with the LabVIEW control program Provide hands-on troubleshooting in-the-field using electrical diagnostic tools to verify and restore nominal operation of data acquisition and control systems Serve on-console as part of the operations team during test and launch operations Write technical documentation: specifications, verification procedures, reports, etc.
Design and implement data storage methodologies that are easily understood by operators, protect data integrity, and enhance the engineering and operations teams’ assessment activities Test systems according to safety, environment, electrical, software and essential performance specifications Keep supervisor advised of work status, challenges, and progress as related to work assignments Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related degree.
Experience may be substituted Expert in application, use, and programming of LabVIEW and MATLAB (knowledge and experience with other A&C systems a plus) In-depth knowledge of real-time data acquisition and controls hardware and timing systems Comfortable working in high tempo operations environment, where troubleshooting, root cause, and teamwork are key Familiar with implementing and maintaining instrumentation and control modules, such as valve controls, pump controls, pressure and temperature sensors, differential pressure sensors, etc.
Familiarity with systems and software engineering processes Ability to communicate and disseminate information effectively You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position.

ITAR Requirements: This position requires compliance with U.
S.
Government space technology trade restrictions, specifically the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and additional regulations governing satellite, launch vehicle, missile, and other related technologies.
All jobs restricted by these regulations will be contingent upon the applicant’s status as a documented U.
S.
Person or their ability to receive a trade license from the cognizant government agency; in addition to any required company background checks and in compliance with applicable U.
S.
laws.
Similarly, positions requiring the ability to work on government contracts or a security clearance are also contingent upon the applicants ability to receive the appropriate clearance and be allowed to work on U.
S.
government contracts.
