Vintage Mexican Copper Metal Mask Folk Art Guerrero Viejito Old Amazing Detail This mask was purchased in the 1970's but in my opinion it was made earlier.
This vintage mask is an exceptional piece of folk art.
Made of a heavy gauge of (probably) copper, the detail is exceptional.
The facial features are carefully hammered out -- the cheeks have dimples, the nose has nostril holes, the red lips are inset for realism, the hair and eyebrows are detailed -- not the work of an amateur! The mask is lined on the reverse with canvas.
The mask measures 14½ inches high and 10 inches wide.
There are minor areas of paint loss or wear.
