Talk-o-phone was an independent company based in Toledo, Ohio between around 1903-1908.
No factory records or brochures have ever been discovered, and some model identification rests primarily upon one known catalog.
Models of unknown designation, like this one, continue to appear.
This short-lived manufacturer went bankrupt in 1908 after being vigorously pursued in the courts by Victor Talking Machine Co.
over patent infringement.
Eagle Talking Machine Co.
was a client of Talk-O-Phone.
They would buy Talk-O-Phone phonographs and sell them as their own.
Columbia Phonograph Co.
acquired Talk-O-Phone inventory after they went out of business and used it in their product lines.
The badge on the case indicates that Kohler & Chase music store in San Francisco sold this at their location at Post and Kearny streets.
This location burned as result of the 1906 earthquake.
This phonograph is a survivor and part of the history of how companies tried to cash in on the music business, sometimes illegally.
