VERY OLD HAND SAWN MESQUITE DOORS FROM MEXICO
These handmade doors were crafted from Mesquite boards that were hand sawn by two people using a long, two handled, push-pull saw.
It is easy to see from the photos that they were not from any kind of a sawmill.
That was just the beginning.
Every bit of work on these doors was done with hand tools, it doesn’t appear that any electric tools were used to make them.
One side is very rustic, showing the laborious hand sawing that was required to produce them, while the more formal side shows beaded trim around carved raised panels, and that side of the two doors are finished smoothly.
The pair together measure 38 1/2” wide by 78 5/8” tall.
They are quite heavy.
They will last forever outdoors or inside your house.
These are the kind of doors you often see as courtyard entry doors in a stucco wall with a curved masonry or stucco arch above.
I have the original door jambs for the sides that will be included.
I believe that one of the jambs has some curve to it, but the doors were hung on them originally.
There is no top part to the jamb.
There are a few patches here and there as you can see from the photos, but they just add to the old-world charm of these treasures.
These date back to the colonial era in Old Mexico.
I went to the Lost Barrio to see if there were doors that were comparable to these in order to price them.
If you haven’t been down there yet, look it up and plan to spend an enjoyable couple of hours browsing antiques and home accents from all over the world.
I have prices on a few that were more or less similar to these.
The first pair of doors that you see after my doors were priced at $1,500.
